Michelle Coles is an award-winning young adult novelist who strives to write interesting stories about Black history to help readers see the connections between the present and the past.

 

BLACK WAS THE INK

Through the help of a ghostly ancestor, sixteen-year-old Malcolm is sent on a journey through Reconstruction-era America to find his place in modern-day Black progress. Black Was the Ink won the 2022 Grateful American Book Prize, a Skipping Stone Award, and the 2019 New Visions Award Honor.

BOOZ ALLEN’S JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION

Join us as we celebrate Juneteenth! In commemoration of the holiday, we are hosting a hybrid event called “Their Wildest Dreams.” Guest speaker Michelle Coles - civil rights attorney and award-winning author - will discuss the history and progression of recognizing Juneteenth. In-person attendees will receive a signed copy of Michelle’s book, “Black Was the Ink.”

Join us for an enlightening event as we delve into the rich history of Juneteenth with Michelle Coles, award-winning author of Black Was the Ink, a young adult novel on the Reconstruction Era and a recognized ‘Good Troublemaker’ by the John Lewis Foundation. We will explore the significance of Juneteenth - commemorating the end of slavery in the United Sates - the Reconstruction Era, and what Juneteenth means today.
